Tara Thorpe Mystery #2
A car submerged in the cold water – the driver found dead. Accidental death, in all probability. Two months later, DS Tara Thorpe finds a most unwelcome visitor at her door: Dr Monica Cairncross, sister of the deceased, the author Ralph Cairncross. She is adamant her brother has been murdered. – she even has picked her preferred killer: her sister-in-law.
It does not help that Tara’s boss, DS Wilkins, has dismissed Monica’s ideas as investigating it would put Tara in an awkward position. Not to mention the fact that Wilkins is not too keen on having Tara in his team… He suspects her being a favourite of his boss, DI Blake, is how she got the job in the first place. as she used to be a journalist. Wilkins knows just how he is going to find that out…
Meanwhile, Tara digs into the life of Ralph Cairncross and the more she finds out, the less she likes the man. With his air of arrogance and philosophy of youth, he influenced those around him to extremes. Could it be that someone did murder him? We know she is being watched., We know someone is playing a deadly and dangerous game…
| My Thoughts |
I LOVE Death on the River! Wow! Felt drawn right into it – Tara Thorpe is such a fab character, I loved her from the moment I ‘met’ her. What can I say.. it’s a detective thriller with a twist, it blew me away and kept me guessing. What I like is that you are at TT’s side and you follow the evidence just like her and reach the conclusion at the same time as her. That’s fab. The intriguing outset, the personal and work-related problems.. pretty awesome. Love everything about Death on the River.
The writing is entertaining, gripping, and pulls you right in. I did not want to do anything else but to finish the book first. You just need to know what will happen next… This is the first book of Clare Chase I have read and yes, she’s definitely an author I want to read more of! Highly recommend Death on the River. Go. Read it. Now!
| About the Author |
Clare Chase writes women sleuth mysteries, her latest crime series is set in Cambridge and now consists of two books. The opening book s Murder on the Marshes (July 2018). The mystery follows investigative journalist Tara Thorpe. The third book in the series is scheduled for publication early 2019.
After graduating from London University with a degree in English Literature, Clare moved to Cambridge and has lived there ever since. The terrace she now occupies, with her husband and teenage children, presents a good happy medium.
As well as writing, Clare loves family time, art and architecture, cooking, and of course, reading other people’s books.
Clare’s debut novel, You Think You Know Me, was shortlisted for the Novelicious Undiscovered Award 2012, and an EPIC award in 2015. It was also chosen as a debut of the month by Lovereading.
