The Origin of F.O.R.C.E. – Sam B. Miller II

The Origin of F.O.R.C.E. is an exciting science fiction novel, involving the alien race the Chrysallaman and their fight to conquer Planet HG-281 – Earth

Introduction

Two spaceships appear before the reader: the Chrysallaman Scout Saucer, a small assault and reconnaissance ship and the Chrysallaman Mother Ship, a “heavily armoured arsenal”. In the prologue, we find ourselves aboard scout ship UurBereck with Chrysallaman officer DrrTrr Zennk and his 12-year-old son WrrNrr Zennk, scanning Planet HG-281 ( Planet Earth) to determine whether the expanding race of the Chrysallaman will be able to settle there, to form a colonisation. We have heard the tale of the mysterious objects believed to be seen in Roswell, New Mexico in the year 1947. Many are convinced that a UFO had crashed in the desert and that the whole affair subsequently had been covered up. Just how much of it was true?

Storyline

What really happened soon becomes clear: DrrTrr Zennk, bored and hungry, wanted to catch a human to stock up his larder with fresh meat for the return journey to his home planet Chrysalis, 30 light years away from Earth. To that end, a single man in the desert was killed. But when DrrTrr Zennk collected his meat, he himself was attacked by (in his eyes) ‘mere’ humans. The only surviving alien, looking like an iguana creature, is the 12-year-old WrrNrr Zennk. The commander of the Chrysallaman fleet, Hisspat Zeck, is furious. Never before has a Chrysallaman air ship been lost or its crew killed in action. How could these inferior humans, with their ancient weaponry and primitive minds achieve such a thing? Hisspat Zeck shivers when he thinks of the wrath of the Emperor, ruler over the Chrysallaman race. He knows the Emperor will punish him once he is home in 30 years time as the Chrysallaman use mind control to dominate and disarm those conquered but also as a means to communicate and thus the Emperor has access to Hisspat Zeck’s memories the minute he is back.

Now is the time to tell you about the reported UFO sightings in the months before the 1947 Roswell incident. The reports led to a secret mission that succeeded in capturing the superior Chrysallaman saucer. In the springtime of 1948, Major General Collier forms a special elite task force, F.O.R.C.E. (Federal Organization for Response to Celestial Enemies). The purpose of this task force is to prevent the Chrysallaman race from conquering planet Earth. The members are all experts in their own field, from weaponry to biogenetics and electronics: weapons expert Lt. McPherson, biogenetics researcher Dr Diane Hoffman, xenobiologist Dr Lucy Smith, military and electronics expert captain Tom LeBlanche and astrophysicist Dr John Heimbaum. Added to this group are two more members, one is major James Blunt and the other is WrrNrr Zennk, Whatsit, his human name. The expert group are informed of the 1947 capture of an alien reconnaissance saucer in Roswell.

After researching the saucer, the USA government had reason to believe that the Chrysallaman will in about 70 years return to Earth to colonise it, destroying all life on Earth. That is the timeframe for this F.O.R.C.E. task force to invent an ingenious plan to defeat the Chrysallaman, the lizard-like aliens from outer space. What follows is an exciting, interesting and moving tale of people uniting to save the human race. Of the friendships that are formed, within the expert group as well as with the young alien Whatsit. Although his appearance and way of communicating are different, he has feelings just like us, he can be sad, angry or happy. We see him and James Blunt bonding, endeavouring to communicate with each other. As the F.O.R.C.E. task force seeks to fulfil its mission, they do not realise the dangers, the threats that exist, not only alien but also human. Will they succeed and can they ever prepare mankind for the monstrous slaughter that awaits them?

My Thoughts

It is a fascinating tale to read, spanning over multiple decades, involving several people from all over the world. The knowledge on the different expert fields is great and enlightening, sometimes barely understandable or a bit too technical. What I liked about the book is that it is not only enjoyable and pleasant but also expertly entwines real life events with the tale of suspense. For me, the most touching event in the book was the moment Whatsit connected with Tenzin, the young Dalai Lama. I won’t say too much about it, you just have to read the book for yourself.
